9/11 Starts the Blog Boom + Pics of New World Trade Center Plaza
For some reason this 9/11 has hit me harder than previous years. I feel the tragedy more now than I did when it happened for some reason and have been preoccupied with TV and Internet news stories. Here are a couple from Wired news that I particularly found interesting.
When you think back on it, 9/11 really did help spur on the popularity of weblogs. Wired News reports: 9/11: Birth of the Blog “While phone networks and big news sites struggled to cope with heavy traffic, many survivors and spectators turned to online journals to share feelings, get information or detail their whereabouts. It was raw, emotional and new — and many commentators now remember it as a key moment in the birth of the blog.”
I like the following story because instead of re-living the past which we can’t change, it focuses on the future and the re-building of the trade center. The new building designs are beautiful and the security measures that are being built into the new structures are interesting to read about.
Wired News: Freedom Tower“The 1776-floor Freedom Tower is the most symbolic of four buildings planned on the former World Trade Center site. The design fortifies the building against another attack — a steel and concrete core supports the structure and a wide staircase egress route is separate from the entry for emergency workers in case disaster strikes again.”
