SEE the Good, Bad and the Ugly - CJ’s New LMI Links
You can think you intellectually understand CJ’s LMI links and the ramifications, but a picture is still worth a thousand words and you really need to SEE them in action from the consumer’s viewpoint to fully understand.
Merchants, have you seen what your new Javascript links look like on an affiliate site yet? Ok let’s do what you should ALWAYS do when you review your marketing and advertising campaigns through any service or on any web site. You are in this business to make sale or gather leads right??? So pretend you are AVERAGE JOE SURFER or AVERAGE SUSIE SHOPPER. Pretend you are a BUYER, but you are not super Internet savvy.
You are searching for a product from Circuit City in the search engines and looking for a Circuit City coupon. You land on a site. Wait where are the coupons? Where are the ads? Where is the Circuit City logo? All you see are a bunch of dates and blank white space. (See screenshots at link below.) You leave thinking the site is broken. You don’t realize the site is blank cuz you have Javascript turned off. You don’t even know what it is. Your husband changed some security setting so you wouldn’t get those surfing worms or spyware. (Don’t worry only about 10% of surfers have Javascript turned off. For an average sized affiliate program that’s doing 100,000 a month in affiliate sales, that’s only $120,000 a year you are losing due to people not being able to see or click on your ads.)
Even if you have Javascript turned on, if you are Susie you may be a little scared of all the cooties you can catch on the net and you’ve read about software that sneaks on your computer without your permission. What do you think when you mouse over the Circuit City link and see
run script “CJ10400469X247.submit()”??? Afraid to click that one, arentcha?
Scott over at his Jangro blog does a great job once again exposing CJ’s LMI links. The good, bad and the ugly. The ‘good’ according to the affiliate used in the example is that the coupons do all auto-update, saving the affiliate lots of time. SEE the screenshots for yourself to experience ‘the bad and the ugly’ and be sure to put on your consumer glasses.
