Top Internet Advertisers Gaming the Search Engines?
Well initially I thought this may be good data to point out to affiliates for keyword and industry targeting info. After all, the top Internet advertisers - big companies like Ebay, Vonage and ShopZilla, should have lots of money and skilled marketing teams running their ad campaings, right? Turns out some of these top advertisers on the net give us some lessons in how NOT to do sponsored search marketing.
There is still some good info to look at in this article over at Clickz that shares: “The industry breakdown of ad placements and unit types and top 25 companies placing sponsored links. The data is provided by Nielsen//NetRatings.” Review the charts that show: Advertising Breakdown by Industry, Advertising Breakdown by Industry- Ad Unit Types and Top 25 Companies by Sponsored Link Impressions - Number of Impression. Then check out the top 3 search terms some of these companies are targeting.
Top 25 Companies by Sponsored Link Impressions, Top Three Search Terms
eBay - Top 3 key words: ebay - craigslist - gmail
(hmmmm)
Shopzilla International: john cena - furniture - pictures+of+women+with+bruised+faces
(I think you may be able to find furniture there, but not sure about the other two)
Interchange Corporation: porn - toysrus - eminent domain
(An ad network that claims to be a search pioneer and technology leader)
TradeComet.com LLC: boobs - tattoos - clip+art
( TradeComet is a B2B Search Engine - very industry trade targeted)
While Covad targets good industry key phrases, Vonage targets the competition.
Covad Communications Company: dsl - high speed internet - satellite internet
Vonage Holdings Corp: comcast - verizon dsl - sbc
eWoss.com a news site, also picked the key phrase “pictures of women with bruised faces”.
WHATS up with that? Why is that such a popular search term???
