Affiliates – The 3 Click Rule for Conversions
Maybe you are familiar with the 3 click rule of thumb. The goal is never put more than three clicks between your visitors and the product purchase page. Don’t make them keep digging deeper and deeper into your site OR the merchant’s site before they get to the buy button. Help them get there in a short amount of clicks.
The 3 click rule can be accomplished in a variety of ways: landing pages, search boxes, direct linking, and “buy now” buttons, all of which have proven to be successful in converting browsers to buyers.
The techniques in the following article can be leveraged by both affiliates and by merchants to help increase sales and conversion rates.
Keep in mind tweaking your conversion rate even slightly has an exponential impact on your sales and helps you to capitalize on the traffic you already have.

In fact, speaking primarily from a user / potential customer viewpoint, having a small (or not so small) “Buy Now” or “Add to Shopping Cart” link or button on each page where a product is mentioned is helpful. That way, if the customer goes away and comes back to your site having made a decision to buy, s/he can go directly to the purchase page.
