CJ Gives ShopatHomeSelect the Boot – New Info, Story Continues
Brian Livingston does a more in-depth report about ShopatHomeSelect and CJ and parasitic bahavior in general. Commission Junction Bans Major ‘Loyalty’ Affiliate.
Ben Edelman, a Harvard Law School graduate and noted adware researcher says in the article:
“As with its prior terminations of 180solutions, Direct Revenue, and eXact Advertising, CJ is a leader among major affiliate networks,” says Edelman. “Yet it’s easy to wish for more from CJ. For one, the wrongful installations have gone on for months. CJ’s delayed response means CJ merchants have already paid out many thousands — millions? — of dollars of commissions through CJ to Shop At Home Select. They’re not getting this money back, even though it’s well-known that Shop At Home hadn’t fairly earned large portions of these commissions.”

On a much more serious note, according to Scott Jangro, ShopatHomeSelect, a company considered by many to be one of the bigger parasites on CJ was just given the boot! Commission Junction has been cleaning house again! Yea CJ!!! Recently CJ removed 180 Solutions and several others that were not playing by the rules of “ethical” affiliate marketing. Most of these companies overwrite the deserving affiliate’s links or replace their cookies with the use of download software applications that serve pops on the end users computer. Typically the software is considered Adware and Spyware. (Only explaining a little in very general terms because I have been trying to educate some affiliates that don’t know what parasites are, or how to protect their links from being over-written, over at the DP Forum. )
At CJU I was VERY impressed with what I learned about Commission Junction’s Network Quality division and the efforts they were making to clean up the network. I hope that many of the people (like me) who publicly give CJ grief about parasites will join me now in giving them KUDOS when they take steps like this in the right direction. Thanks CJ we appreciate you!
Here is more info from Scott Jangro who used to be with BeFree and was involved in developing the “Publisher Code of Conduct”.Jangro.com: ShopatHomeSelect Evicted
ShopatHomeSelect, has been removed from Commission Junction’s network for violation of the publisher service agreement and the Publisher Code of Conduct…The adware in affiliate marketing issue has been brewing for years, came to a head in the fall of 2002 when the Publisher Code of Conduct was drafted, and has been simmering, and boiling over, ever since.
Thanks again CJ!
