Adwords – New Contextual Product Datafeed Ads on YouTube
A glimmer of something new from Google – product datafeed displays, called the AdWords Product PlusBox. This datafeed ad model has been viewed a few times in a regular Adwords ad (see example at bottom of page). But this is the 1st time I’ve seen the new Adwords product datafeed ads displayed on Youtube next to a contextually relevant video.
Affiliates have long been the king of the datafeeds, but it appears Google is looking to get more active in displaying product datafeeds in addition to other traditional ad formats. Not sure if this was just a test or if it’s something they will be rolling out in a big way. I picked up this story at Search Engine Journal where the 1st commenter asked “Will AdWords Product PlusBox be the end for companies like Commission junction, Tradedoubler etc?” I don’t think we have anything to worry about, but it is an interesting development.
Here’s what Loren had to say. Google AdSense Featuring Adwords Product Plusbox Shopping Feeds
Here is an example of a datafeed ad, embedded in a regular Adwords ad on a search for “luggage”.

To replicate, search for luggage and then under the Ebags ad click the + sign and link that says “Show products from eBags.com” or under the Luggage.com ad, the link that says “Show products from this advertiser.”

Rob I checked too and it was just a regular banner ad.
I wondered if they took down the product links in case a bunch of people reading Loren’s post would be checking it out and doing curiosity clicks the merchants would get upset about. Or like you said probably just testing.

We’ve been following this story with interest at the AdWords Adviser and have noticed that ads of this type are appearing in You Tube also. It would seem that Google are trying out the format in all their various platforms.
