Rebranding a Popular Blog – SparkPlugging is Born
I’ve been ‘twitfollowing’ with interest as Wendy Piersall from eMomsatHome.com took her very popular blog through a metamorphosis. She didn’t just rebrand the blog with a new name and redesign, but completely repositioned the site from a Mom blog into a resource for a diverse group of people who use the internet to create flexible work for themselves – both parents and non parents.
Wendy also did an EXCELLENT job of building up anticipation and creating a ton of Buzz in social networks, around the new name and blog relaunch.

Wendy let Darren from Problogger scoop the story and do an interview. I found it fascinating to hear the entire process explained as she realized her old brand was holding her back. She had to go through a soul searching process of discovering who she was speaking to, once her audience that had grown way beyond Moms and find a new identity that would appeal to a diverse set of readers. The metaphor she used for the new name keeps growing on me. Sparkplugging = Brilliant!
Check out her blog post about the process and head over to Sparkplugging.

It wasn’t a “mom blog” before.

Sorry you’re right! I should have said that differently. I meant the ‘image’ that it was primarily a work at home Mom oriented blog because Mom was in the name.

Working up the nerve to do something like that is very hard to do.
