ProBlogging - A KILLER Business
I’ve blogged before about the health risks of working online. My chiropractor says sitting for long periods is the worst thing you can do to your back and says working 12-15 hour days sitting on my tail is going to kill me. He means it figuratively - not literally.
However the New York Times over the weekend had an interesting article about full-time bloggers that have died.

The story line suggests the rigors of the 24/7 Internet world we live in creates pressure for bloggers to always be ON, trying to scoop the next story, literally blogging until they drop. I don’t think blogging or Internet stress killed these 2 bloggers or gave Om Malik his recent heart attack, as the article sensationally suggests. After all Michael Arrington and Darren Rowse are still alive and kickin. It’s still an interesting article that wanna-be pro bloggers may want to read.
In Web World of 24/7 Stress, Writers Blog Till They Drop
“A growing work force of home-office laborers and entrepreneurs, armed with computers and smartphones and wired to the hilt, are toiling under great physical and emotional stress created by the around-the-clock Internet economy that demands a constant stream of news and comment.Of course, the bloggers can work elsewhere, and they profess a love of the nonstop action and perhaps the chance to create a global media outlet without a major up-front investment. At the same time, some are starting to wonder if something has gone very wrong. In the last few months, two among their ranks have died suddenly.”

I believe anyone can fall into that trap of overdoing it. It takes discipline to know when to stop.
Owners of traditional brink and mortar business have fell into this trap as well.
I can remember working from home several years ago. There were days that I didn’t leave my apartment. I loved working from home and I wanted to be successful at doing what I thought was a great busiensss.
This story really needs some attention to all of us bloggers.

Hi Eric,
So true. Especially when you work from home, it’s easy to let an Internet business take over your life. I know because I’m one of those people that literally lives online.

LOL, great story! I know my girlfriend thinks I will die sometimes if I won’t get off the computer. How can you make it though if you don’t take it seriously?

I think all the blogger should master the time management skills. As a full time blogger we can do whatever we want, when and where we want. Don’t “overwork”, We need to balance our work and social life.
To your success
