Top 10 in Google - Playing the Social Marketing Game
Which of the many new social networking sites can net you top Google Rankings? Everyone knows about Squidoo, but there are several others that aren’t quite as saturated by overly aggressive marketers yet.
The 2 videos below each show a single person almost completely dominating the every listing on the 1st page of Google. Granted some of the search terms are not overly competitive, however if you are launching a new niche site, this strategy could get you much higher than a new virgin domain could. Now before I continue, let me stress that I am not advocating spamming Google by using multiple social sites. NO don’t do it! I am also not endorsing or trying to get you to buy the $1,200 membership package at the end of these videos - at all.
My only point is to show you some of the social sites that CAN get TOP Google rankings. My advice is to pick ONE and use it to your advantage to get a good ranking with good content that links to your your main site or the merchant site if the social platform allows affiliate links.
Rick Butts did the video above and it links to another video that shows other top social rankings. Google Domination Video by Howie Schwartz
Here is a list of some of the social marketing sites in the videos that got top Google rankings, plus a couple others I have either researched or heard other marketers having success with.
In no particular order (research and see which one may work for you)
hubpages
clipmarks
wetpaint.com
bluedot.us
xanga (no not zango!)
tumblr (30 day challenge spammers caused problems and may have ruined it)
squidoo (over saturated but still works if you put in enough energy)

Thanks very much posting my colorful and fun video. Your comments are well taken about using one SB site to get your work done.
Google has clearly shown it has some kind of penalty for my .com site - so now I’m trying to get ranked on top for my own name using http://www.RickButts.net instead and I really appreciate the link.
ALWAYS good stuff on your blog!
Thanks,
Rick Butts

Two quick notes:
I’ve definitely experienced the success of using social websites to increase search engine exposure. (I don’t say ranking b/c technically, your site isn’t ranking, however, you are gaining more exposure from the social site’s increased ranking.)
Not just with the sites you’ve listed above; there are many more social sites that haven’t been fully utilized — or exploited.
Also, Xanga should be spelled with an X, not Z.
It’s ridiculous (and borderline spam) how often people are “inviting” me to join Xanga — I believe it’s because they use the “invite friends in your address book” feature when they sign up for an account.
All that said, great caveats, Linda. If you’re too conspicuous with these services, you may find your page, blog, or account deleted because you’ve been reported for spam.
Another thing to note about the above is that it’s seasonal and not a long term thing. If you go this route, you’d better make sure you also have a great back up plan that will continue to earn you revenue in the off-peak seasons.
Just my 2 cents,
~ Teli

Good points Teli and thanks for catching my typo. Corrected it.
